Should AI do your job?
Here’s what Singaporeans think!
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an integral part of our work lives, changing how we approach tasks, collaborate, and manage our responsibilities. From virtual assistants streamlining our schedules to enhanced efficiency across processes, AI is reshaping the workplace. But how do Singaporeans feel about this shift?
Here’s a closer look at how AI is viewed on the job and which roles are seen as the best and worst fits for AI assistance.
We asked HappyDotters how they currently feel about using AI in their work. 44.1% see AI as a tool that can enhance their work and boost creativity. 43.4% are interested in learning how to incorporate AI into their jobs to stay competitive. This data indicates a general openness to AI as a career development tool and a way to build new skills.
However, there are also concerns about AI replacing human skills. Approximately 29.2% of respondents expressed concern that AI might diminish the personal touch in their work, while 28.3% were worried that relying on AI could undervalue traditional skills and craftsmanship and 23.4% feel that AI cannot replicate the depth of expertise they bring to their work. However, 18.1% worry that AI might be a better craftsman than them.
HappyDotters believe AI can be most helpful in administrative or clerical work (20.9%), followed by programming and computing (17.7%) and manual labour (16.0%) also made the list. HappyDotters view AI as a valuable tool for roles that can benefit from automation and enhanced efficiency and productivity.
Conversely, some roles are seen as less compatible with AI, possibly due to how these roles require high levels of personal interaction and human touch. On top of the list are medical professions (32.1%), followed by creative work (18.5%) and education and training (15.2%).
Overall, while AI is welcomed for enhancing efficiency in certain roles, there’s still a clear preference for the human touch in areas that require empathy, creativity, and personal connection. As AI continues to evolve, finding the right balance between automation and human touch will be key to shaping a future-ready workforce.
